Delegates weigh in on proposed structural changes and release two congregations

Congregational delegates of Virginia Mennonite Conference gathered for Winter Delegate Session at Waynesboro Mennonite Church, where they heard from the chair of the Polity Task Force, provided feedback in table groups and open microphone, and were introduced to the Restructure for Mission Committee, the group that is working on implementing the Polity Task Force’s recommendations. New VMC mission statement affirmed

During the Winter Delegate Session in February 2018, delegates affirmed VMC’s new mission statement: “Virginia Mennonite Conference equips pastors, lay leaders, and congregants for worship and service, and to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to neighbors near and far.” The vision statement is the same as Mennonite Church USA’s, and was affirmed at the July 2017 Assembly: “God calls us to be followers of Jesus Christ and, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to grow as communities of grace, joy and peace, so that God’s healing and …

Cântăm pentru România (We Sing for Romania), a program of music and stories will bring together more than 50 alumni of Eastern Mennonite High School touring choirs to sing, directed and accompanied by Jay and Sheri Hartzler. This benefit concert will be held at 4 p.m. Sun. August 12 at Community Mennonite Church, 70 S. High Street, Harrisonburg. Conference terminates Yoder’s credentials

Based on the findings of the Virginia Mennonite Conference (VMC) Investigation Team regarding Duane Yoder, the previous pastor of Lindale Mennonite Church, Linville, Va., and on Yoder’s decision not to contest those findings by declining to participate further in this process, Conference leadership acted to terminate Duane Yoder’s ministerial credentials for further ministry within Virginia Mennonite Conference on October 24, 2017.

Conference Council approves Gordon Zook as interim Conference Minister during Kratz’s sabbatical

News release September 27, 2017 The September meeting of Conference Council, Virginia Mennonite Conference’s governing body, launched a temporary time of transition. Effective October 1, Executive Conference Minister Clyde G. Kratz begins a three-month sabbatical. Conference Council hired Gordon Zook, former Oversight Leader for VMC’s Leadership/Administration Cluster, to serve as a part-time interim Conference Minister. Zook was present for the meeting and was welcomed by the Council.
