Pre-Assembly Pastoral Summit

“Challenging/Difficult People in Congregational Life…including Ourselves.”   Virginia Mennonite Conference will again host a Pastoral Summit on Thursday, July 20, at Shady Oak (Weavers Mennonite Church) before Conference Assembly begins. This resourcing event is for all credentialed leaders in VMC. The theme, presented by Lonnie Yoder, is “Challenging/Difficult People in Congregational Life…including Ourselves.” Every congregation includes individuals or groups who, from a pastoral perspective, represent unique challenges or difficulties. Leaders gather for Celebrating Congregational Life Seminar

Lay leaders and pastors gathered for a one-day seminar on April 22, 2017, to be better equipped for the missional impulses that nurture congregational life and the mission of the church. Celebrating Congregational Life was a resource event about disciple-making, the mission of God and the mission of the church. Speakers and workshops gave tips and resources for leaders to take back to their congregations. Dr. Art McPhee brought the keynote address at Eastern Mennonite School on “The Missional Church: Missional Living and Community Weaving,” based on Acts 2: 43-47. …

  A Credentialed Leaders Consultation on “Developing Intercultural Competence” will be May 5 and 6 at Shady Oak (Weavers Mennonite Church), featuring Ertell M. Whigham Jr., one of 17 qualified administrators and coaches across Mennonite Church USA for the Intercultural Development Inventory, as lead facilitator. Virginia Mennonite Conference Assembly will focus on the theme “Neighbors: Strangers No More” at Park View Mennonite Church, Harrisonburg, Va., from July 20 to 22, 2017. Plan to join a time of meaningful worship, deliberation, learning, and fellowship. More information will be coming soon.

At Virginia Mennonite Conference Winter Delegate Assembly on February 4, delegates engaged in worship, reflected on the mission of the church through a presentation by Dr. Art McPhee, met Eastern Mennonite University’s new president, heard reports from Virginia Mennonite Missions and other agencies of VMC, wrestled with ongoing issues of polity, were updated on the findings of and response to the D. Conference responds to DSA report (UPDATES)

NEWS RELEASE (February 10, 2017) The officers of Faith and Life Commission (FLC) of Virginia Mennonite Conference (VMC) are immediately suspending the credentials of Duane Yoder pending the completion of a formal Ministerial Credentials review process. FLC acted on Executive Conference Minister Clyde Kratz’s recommendation. The action to suspend Duane Yoder’s credentials was based on information from the DSA report, findings from Aldine Musser, Northern District Minister and a complaint issued locally against Duane Yoder. Join women from around the Conference on Saturday, May 6, 10:00 AM at First Mennonite Church, 601 E. Parham Rd., Richmond, VA. Speaker Moriah Hurst will provide input. Spend the day together: Mennonite Women of Virginia has reserved a coach bus to travel from Harrisonburg-Waynesboro-Richmond and back again. Plan to get lunch and spend some time at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens before returning home.
