Dedication of community pavilion at Ridgeway
by Sarah Layman
A bit of good news from one of our congregations, Ridgeway Mennonite Church…
We recently had the dedication of our new playground and pavilion, which included telling the story, live music, and a visit from the Bubble Bus! This was such a meaningful event for me. I shared the story of how this all came to be, here were my closing words:
In closing, I want to circle back to the significance of all this. Yes, we have a shiny new pavilion and playground, but why does that matter? To me, this is physical, tangible evidence that the Spirit is active in this congregation and this community. I see this confirmed in two ways: First, the fact that we have a use for these facilities indicates that we are actively engaged in this geographical location. Second, the fact that this community rallied to support and provide resources to make this project a reality shows that the Spirit was moving not just one person but this entire congregation. Someone asked me recently why I attend Ridgeway. This second point is what continues to draw me here. I’ve seen it happen consistently over the years. An initial vision forms and the congregation jumps on board, all-in, following the Spirit’s guidance, trusting that God is at work and that a piece of His Kingdom is made tangible here on Franklin Street.”
May these facilities be a blessing for years to come!
Notice the “All God’s Children 1995” beam in one photo. This was the centerpiece of the old playground and preserved and re-stained to carry the legacy forward.
